At my new house they told me they couldn’t figure out how to get my couch into my new apartment. So they simply left it in the lobby of the building! I had to hire last minute movers from @TaskRabbit (ftw) to come 2 days after the initial move to get my couch up (without issue).

Once you’ve gotten the tasks down (insurance, good tenant screening, solid marketing of each rental property) it becomes easy monthly paycheck
Notably you can do this for many other industries as well
Just look at TaskRabbit as an example of outsourced services for menial needs

@taskrabbit completely ruined my SIMPLE moving experience. i started booking movers a week in advance and every day a cancellation + rebook. now a day before my move i’m waiting for the “policies team” to get back to me in 7-10 days....Let’s hope Dolly doesn’t let me down.

@ellle_em If you go back to Taskrabbit's origin story, you'll find a shockingly entitled take about getting back late from a night out and finding you're out of dog food and "neighbors helping neighbors". The problem isn't all consumer level, but that's part of it.

Inequality makes it possible for something like TaskRabbit to work but I don't think you should feel bad for using it because avoiding it won't fix the root cause of inequality

the problem isn't the nature of the work, it's how exploited the workers are. I would have no problem with services like taskrabbit or instacart if they were able to pay their workers good wages & benefits. but otherwise you could make this same argument about restaurant staff?

A lot of non-wizard apps these days, whether intentionally or not, fill in the gaps where normally you’d have a friend or community help you out. Uber, Taskrabbit, etc.
While there’s a certain equity to it, there’s a sort of deeper issue it glazes over.

lesson of today, do not use @TaskRabbit or Shift .... they may feel more efficient and possibly save you money but when things go wrong there is no help.
Am down £400, no delivery and no information, the service is that poor.
This is why using local companies is the way to go.

I hired them 5 months ago to hang shelves, but the guy installed 2 of them upside down. All the books on the top shelf just fell on me & hurt my neck & back.
