Just the fact that a faceless, unaccountable moderator (or bot) can literally change what you say, is a serious issue.
Now, if they want to archive an answered question that edits out usernames and "fluff", I would be ok with this if they linked to the original post.

Stack Overflow has been such a useful resource to find info, yet is such a difficult place to contribute for a newcomer. I feel they need to be more welcoming. If a large proportion of crowd is discouraged from contributing, the site will die down with time.
