@PhDhurtBrain Anecdata, but even though I never took my original blog down (the second iteration is dead!) a bunch of my photos are gone thanks to the Photobucket hostage situation, and most of the links are dead. Even what remains is tenuous.

@bromojumbo Beyond the situation you describe, it's also a horrible idea because if the tweets and prior content on said inactive accounts are cleared, then that's a HUGE amount of online content that could be lost. Like when Photobucket and other image hosts went down, mediafire, etc

@cadetchlo I had this problem in 2010 with line photobucket bandwidth lmao, I used tumblr to store all my pics! Maybe you could do that with just your memes, they have a daily upload limit but it's quite high iirc

These instructions and DIY tutorials were all saved, scattered across thousands of different car forums online. The issue is that the majority used Photobucket to copy/paste the images into the posts. It was free and considered the best at the time, almost like @imgur is now.

There's an issue in the car community where over the past 2-3 decades, we've built extensive D-I-Y tutorials complete with pictures for almost every car imaginable, but Photobucket decided they wouldn't support the hosted images anymore. So now we have instructions with no pics.

@mothphisto The image hosting has always been a thing (I remember the photobucket purge, and when everyone had to switch to imgur and whatnot) but we obvs always found ways to get around it. And the problem rn is that everything you want is thru communities and most are unfortunately dead.
